Abstract
The discovery of the high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprate is a remarkable case of success by thinking out-of-the-box. By abandoning the traditional path to seek solids with high-Tc, K. Alex Müller opened the door to the world of strongly correlated electron systems beyond magnetism. Following his example, we re-examine the role of electron correlation in shaping various properties of complex solids, including its possible role in the mechanism of superconductivity in the cuprates.
