Abstract

Objective in the present study is to develop a new steam gasification method, in which the clean chemical energy H_2 is derived from organic resources, such as coal or biomass. under high temperature and high pressure conditions in the presence of CO_2 acceptor. The gasification characteristic was investigated using the tube type batch reactor heated in a fluidized bed sand bath. A mixture of Taiheiyo-coal. distilled water, and Ca(OH)_2 was tested as an organic fuel. Product gas and residual solid after the reaction were analyzed for their compositions. As a result, it was confirmed that more than a half of carbon content in coal was discharged because of the thermal decomposition in the middle of heating-up process. CH_4 and H_2 were dominant in the product gas. and CO_2 generated by the reaction was almost absorbed as calcium compounds.
