Abstract

The performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cell is very sensitive to its membrane humidity. We have made a simulation code to calculate its generation performance in steady state, and we have calculated the generation performance for a small unit cell changing its operation parameters. Analytical results are compared with the measured current density distribution at a cell with segmented electrodes, showing a qualitative agreement even though there are small scatters in the contact resistance. Further studies on membrane physical properties and overvoltages are required to get a good agreement between the experimental and the analytical results.
