Abstract

Further understanding of the low-temperature oxidation is strongly desired for efficient development of the HCCI engine and control of engine-knock. In this study, we have conducted LEF measurements of HCHO in a motored, single cylinder engine operated in HCCI mode. By using premix of DME/air, following points were obtained; (i) HCHO could be detected unambiguously in every pressure conditions after proper optimizations of the optical system. (ii) Crank angle resolved traces of HCHO in the spatially point measurement is in qualitative agreement with detailed chemical kinetics calculations under assumption of spatial homogeneity. (iii) With further analysis of factors such as pressure broadening affecting the fluorescence intensity, quantitative HCHO concentration measurement would be achieved.
