Abstract
Neville Fletcher has been active in many areas of acoustics, including acoustics education. He chaired a committee charged with revamping the science education curriculum in Australia’s elementary and secondary education programs. Neville believes, as do I, in the old maxim: “You hear - you forget, You see - you remember, You do - you understand”. In keeping with that I will discuss a number of basic acoustics experiments adaptable in the elementary and secondary classroom or hands-on laboratory, including speed of sound, musical intervals, the Doppler effect, beats, resonance, spectral analysis and synthesis, musical instruments (violin, clarinet, etc.), the human voice, and sound level.
