Abstract

Fracture strength of smooth and notched specimens of porous ceramics of Schumatherm ST#40 was experimentally investigated under tensile loading. It was revealed that the influence of stress concentration around notch on the fracture strength of the material was relatively small and the strength of notched specimens was larger than that of smooth specimen. The reason of those phenomena was attributed to the damage tolerance of the material but detailed analyses were left for future work.
