Abstract
Abstract The aim of this article is the reconstruction of the relationship between two Polish émigré authors: the novelist Józef Mackiewicz, and the poet Czesław Miłosz, on the basis of their private correspondence, left notes, comments, and interviews. The paper presents chosen aspects of the relationship of the writers against a background of their artistic achievements, personal experiences, and youth in interwar Vilnius, as well as life in exile. The author of the article describes some peculiar factors and circumstances that brought Mackiewicz and Miłosz closer to each other, at the same time pointing at the issues that became a bone of contention between them.
