Abstract
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) provides a way of exchanging data in a language-neutral, text-based, and lightweight manner. It was originally derived from the ECMAScript programming language. JSON data interchange format is defined in RFC 7159: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7159 . JSON and XML are the most commonly used data exchange formats for APIs. Looking at the trend over the last five years, it’s more than obvious that JSON is replacing XML. Most of the APIs out there have support for JSON, and some support both JSON and XML.
