Abstract

Regulation of juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthesis is often considered only for its quantitative aspects, i.e. with respect to changes in the rate of hormone production. However, evidence is accumulating that insect corpora allata (CA) produce several end-products related to JH, such as JH acid, JH diol, JH biepoxy methyl farnesoate and several unidentified compounds. These end-products arise from the differential enzymatic processing of a common substrate, but the mechanisms underlying the production of different release patterns of isoprenoids and the functional roles of the JH-related products is still largely obscure.
