Author's summary.— Justo Sierra, one of the earliest of cosmopolitan spirits in the field of Spanish-American letters was the “maestro y gufa” of practically all of the “modernista” poets of Mexico and such was his personality and his influence that he not only improved the literary trend of a nation but also brought about social and economic advancement.
