Abstract

An experiment is reported on the Just Noticeable Difference of articulation rate at sentence level. On the basis of our results the JND can be estimated to be 4.43% of the speech tempo of the standard. In a paired comparison task, two factors appeared to affect the tempo judgements to a certain extent: (a) the response category to be used by the listeners: “higher” vs. “lower” tempo and (b) the position of the stimulus with standard tempo, that is whether it was first or second in the pair to be judged.
