Abstract

Discover that before the Fourteenth Amendment, both jus soli and jus sanguinis were followed in the United State of America. However, with the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment, the United States of America adopted the principle of jus sanguinis for determining the citizenship of one born in the United States and overseas. For the several States, nothing changed, they still follow both jus soli and jus sanguinis.
