Abstract
This article neatly introduces this special issue on media laws. It begins by looking at the question of which authority may lay claim to jurisdiction of the Internet. It addresses certain criminal cases that have resulted in international cooperation between law-enforcement agencies to tackle problems such as child pornography, and consumer fraud. However, the author notes, acts that are regarded as illegal in one country may not be necessarily deemed so in another; thus, cooperation of this nature only works where there is also consensus.
