Abstract

Jurinea boreoiranica (Asteraceae, Cardueae, sect. Incertae) is described as a new species from the Alborz mountain range in northern Iran. The new species is morphologically close to J. meda, mainly for the presence of semiglobose involucre and scapose stems, but differs in height of plant, features of leaves and length of achene and pappus. This species is a xerophytic and Irano‐Turanian element distributed on rocky slopes in the arid parts of Eastern Alborz. Description and photos as well as some ecologic properties and phytogeography of the new species are presented.
