Abstract

ABSTRACT Seismic acquisition and drilling on the Wiggins arch by Mobil and Shell between 1985 and 1991 provided significant data for interpreting the regional Jurassic stratigraphy. The Mobil USA well encountered a complete Jurassic section as follows: a granite-wash section equivalent to the Frisco City Formation, previously only found 100 miles to the northeast; a 300 ft Smackover section of crystalline dolomite; a Norphlet section of granite wash; and unusually thick Pine Hill anhydrite, interpreted to be equivalent to the Louann salt. The Jurassic on the Wiggins arch consists of three transgressive events separated by the Norphlet/Pine Hill and Frisco City/Buckner regressive events.
