Abstract

Each of four divisions of vascular plants is represented by a single species in Mesozoic deposits in the Department of Francisco Morazán in central Honduras. Equisetum is represented by stem fragments of varying diameters with some bearing leaf sheaths. Nodal diaphragms are also preserved. Fern fragments are assignable to Piazopteris branneri which does not show matoniaceous leaf architecture. The frond, rather, was at least three times pinnate. Zamites is presented by frond fragments with extremely variable pinna size. A new species of Brachyphyllum, B. hondurense, exhibits at least four orders of branching and may have exhibited determine growth. The beds are not accurately dated, but the flora is indicative of Jurassic age.
