Abstract

During its first term of office, New Labour was accused by one former Government member of running a ‘macho’ administration, dominated by male behaviour patterns. Policy, she said, was made predominantly by men, and it was communicated using ‘militaristic, macho and hierarchical language’ (BBC News Online, 8 March 1999) that alienated women voters. Three years on, little, apparently, has changed.
