Abstract
We study the jump conditions of a relativistic magnetohydrodynamic shock wave in a gyrotropic plasma and solve these relations for a parallel and a perpendicular shock. A closure for the system of jump conditions is obtained by using the constraints of the firehose and mirror instability which operates in anisotropic, gyrotropic plasmas. All postshock quantities are expressed in terms of the compression ratio and dimensionless upstream quantities.
