Abstract

The practical application of pharmacogenetics is not as straightforward as expected, particularly in psychiatric disorders. Despite the large benefit expected, only a very small numbers of clinical applications are available. The reasons for this are many, in particular the key questions are: Is science robust enough for routine application? Are physicians and patients ready? Are stakeholders (e.g. Government, insurance industry, etc) ready to pay and implementing? What is the position of the pharmaceutical industry? The presentation will cover such aspects offering a coverage of present status and realistic expectations in the field.
