Abstract

In 2019, a group of Swiss investigators reported the results of a large randomized clinical trial (RCT) that compared "individualized nutritional support" (INS) to usual care in patients who had been admitted to one of eight centers1 . Eligible patients had to be adults who were at nutritional risk, defined by a Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS 2002)2 score >3. This RCT was called "Effect of early nutritional support on Frailty, Functional Outcomes, and Recovery of malnourished medical inpatients Trial", or EFFORT for short.
