Abstract

The Beijing World Conference on Women, 1995, provided a variety of experiences to thousands of women from around the world. In this significant international event, women's issues were presented from a global perspective through the eyes of the women of this planet. This paper is a personal narrative, beginning with the planning stages to travel to Beijing and proceeding through the Conference. It details the experience of the process as told by a Latin American immigrant female family counsellor engaged in work with Latin American women, immigrants and refugees, living in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. The Conference highlighted the major problems that women face today in a global context, and searched for solutions that were later proposed in the document called Platform of Action.
