Abstract

Although few diaries from the 18th and the beginning ofthe l9th century have come down to us, there are many memoirs available. Originally written to draw a flattering portrait of their authors for their heirs, they turned into political justifications with the War of Independence before becoming the main historical source for a public anxious to understand the events which led to the 1868 crisis and to get a better grasp of those events which played a part in the transition between the Ancien Régime and the age of liberalism in Spain.
