Abstract
Skin tunnelled central venous catheters facilitate long-term access for the administration of chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, blood product support and anti-microbial medication. Their use, over and above short-term non-tunnelled catheters is predicated on the presumption that the placement prevents infection, and they remain a mainstay of modern cancer care.
