Abstract

This paper presents a core journal analysis of the literature output and its subject-wise coverage of journals in the field of Liver Diseases in MEDLINE data. The literature covered in the database for the period 2009-2013 was considered. MEDLINE covered 1,00,120 records during the study period. 3607 journals were produced 38,545 journal articles. When these cited journals were divided into three zones, 71 journals fell into zone 1, accounting for 33.53% of the total number of citations. Zone 2 consisted of 367 journals, while 87.86% of the journals cited fell in Zone 3. In zone-1, out of 71 journals, 23 journals were Gastroenterology related journals, 15 in Surgery, 10 in Hepatology, 8 in General Medicine, 6 in Radiology, 4 in Oncology, 3 in Virology, 1 each in Pediatrics and Pharmacology. In zone-1 & 2; 118 frequently cited journals were General Medicine titles, 55 in Gastroenterology, 42 in Surgery, 40 in Oncology, 32 in Radiology, 20 in Pharmacology, 16 each in Microbiology and Pathology, 14 in Hepatology, 11 in Pediatrics, 10 in Infectious Diseases, 8 each in Hematology and Veterinary Medicine. 7 in Virology, 6 each in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 4 in Nephrology, 3 each in Dermatology, Epidemiology, Nutrition, 2 each in Experimental Medicine, Genetics, Laboratory Medicine and Rheumatology, 1 each in HIV/AIDS, Embryology, Endocrinology, Forensic Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Public Health and Respiratory Medicine.
