Abstract

Summary Strzygowski's book on Croatian Art appeared in Croatian in 1927 and in German in 1929. The author proposed a tripartite grouping of Early Croatian buildings: 1. Traditional Pre-Romanesque group of mostly small buidings (the backbone of Strzygowski's thesis), 2. Royal Pre-Romanesque group – essentially Croatian version of contemporary Carolingian architecture, 3. Early-Romanesque group. Some aspects of the Pre-Romanesque art in Croatia might profit from a look at Strzygowski's ideas.
