Abstract

Communication hand-offs between fire rescue, medical transport, and hospital-based teams are not standardized, potentially leading to miscommunication, medical errors, and adverse patient outcomes. Researchers analyzed 10 video recorded joint training simulation exercises between pre-hospital rescue and air medical transport crews to identify gaps in the communication and hand-off process. Thirty essential items were identified along with the most commonly missed elements. A description of the standardized hand-off checklist developed from this research will be shared.
