Abstract

The ultra-dense networks in the fifth generation of wireless networks (5G) guarantee a high-speed transmission of data for the internet of things networks. The decreased cell radius can improve the received signal strength, yet larger wireless interference for users. To achieve a better wireless interference management, this paper first surveys the base stations (BS) cooperative transmission and BS cooperative ON-OFF switching mechanism. For the former, a set of neighboring base stations can cooperate to serve edge users with enhanced received signal strength. For the latter, by switching users to the neighboring BSs, the BSs with poor wireless channel quality can be turned off to save the energy consumptions. Take the demands of users into account, we further expect a joint BS cooperative transmission and ON-OFF mechanism with better environment-adaptation. We also point out several promising research directions in the future.
