Abstract

This paper describes some results of the combined analysis of Landsat-MSS and NOAA-AVHRR data for the purpose of monitoring and investigating the complex sea surface phenomena extending over both an inland sea and an open sea area. The areas of interest are Seto Inland Sea, Ise Bay and their southern open sea area located at the southern coastal region of the Japanese Islands. From the results of analysis, it is found that the sea surface temperature pattern at the boundary region of the inland sea and the open sea is fairly affected by the variation of the axis of the Kuroshio Current and as a result the sea surface environment within the inland sea is also influenced by the motion of the Kuroshio in the open sea area.
