Abstract

One of the simplest forms of data is the dichotomous indication of whether or not a specific event occurs, categorized as “responses” and “nonresponses,” respectively. In some settings, there may be two classification schemes or qualitative factorizations examined for their mutual effect on the response. Alternatively, the differential response of two or more populations with respect to a single classification variable may be of interest. This article presents some basic models and methods for assessing the joint action in such dual-factor studies with dichotomous data. Keywords: synergy; binary data; antagonism; simple independent action; simple similar action
