Abstract
John Krause (Figure Figure11) was born on February 1, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and that is where he grew up. In 1962, he graduated from Pennsylvania State University and in 1966, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His postgraduate training was entirely in pathology at the Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh. After finishing his training and 2-year military service, he went to the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as assistant professor of pathology. In 1975, he returned to the University of Pittsburgh, where he remained until 1992. He rose in rank from assistant to full professor of pathology. In 1992, he moved to New Orleans and the Tulane University Medical Center as professor of pathology and director of laboratories. In 1996 he became vice chairman of the department and in 1997 chairman of the department of pathology, where he remained until 2009, when he became director of hematopathology at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas (BUMC).
