Abstract

Dr. J. L. A. Grout died on November 27, 1963 in the Sheffield Royal Hospital, in the service of which he spent the major part of his life. A full obituary has already appeared in the B.M.J. of December 7, 1963. The son of a general practitioner, he was born in Wolverhampton in 1889. He was educated at Wrekin College and Birmingham University, where he qualified in 1913, and worked as a Resident in the Birmingham General Hospital. On the outbreak of war he joined the R.A.M.C. and served throughout, attaining the rank of major. He was awarded the Military Cross for services to the wounded under fire.
