Abstract

Various studies focused on the job satisfaction of police personnel have been conducted in the past. But few have examined it in relation with the constables. The constables are an integral part of the police force and they perform some basic duties as a part of their job to maintain law and order. But as they have been assigned the bottom position in the hierarchical structure of police department, sometimes their need, grievances etc. are overshadowed by major issues concerning the upper strata of the organisational structure of the police department. Hence, an attempt is made in this study to find out the level of job satisfaction of Bihar state police constabulary on the basis of eight variables. The result indicates that 67.5% of the constables are satisfied with their job in terms of overall job satisfaction. But when we analyse the data based on an individual variable, each variable provides us with new information about the level of job satisfaction as well as dissatisfaction of Bihar state police constabulary.
