Abstract

The current paper addressed two separate studies on the issue of job placement and job accommodation. The first study on job placement determined job titles which can be adequately performed by various types of handicapped workers. These job titles were chosen based on their loading scores on five critical job elements derived from a factor analysis on job analysis data. The sample of jobs consisted of 1,285 occupations from the Employment and Vocational Training Administration (EVTA) which were summarized into 112 job titles. The results can help to expand the perspectives about job possibilities and job requirements for handicapped workers. The second study proposed a hierarchical coding scheme which can be referenced by the vocational counselors and employers to determine feasible job accommodation options for the handicapped workers. Based on the hierarchical coding scheme, a database containing job accommodation case examples of employers who had received financial support from the EVTA was constructed. The database can help to provide in-depth analysis of the job accommodation and employment opportunities for various types of handicapped workers.
