Abstract

Using longitudinal data collected over a 4-year period from a sample of medical technologists, this study found that intent to leave one's organization, intent to leave one's profession, and intended retirement age were distinguishable interrole work transitions. Job context (i.e., job satisfaction) had a significant impact on subsequent organizational and professional withdrawal intent. Organizational context (i.e., work-force reduction, shift, schedule) had a significant impact on subsequent organizational withdrawal intent, while professional context (i.e., role orientation and professional commitment) had a significant impact on subsequent professional withdrawal intent.
