James E. Slosson influenced the lives and careers of countless geologists, seismologists, soil engineers, college students, and even collegiate and Olympic track stars. I have been asked to relate how Jim affected my life and career. My 38 years of personal and professional friendship with Jim began in May 1969, when we each gave geological talks at the first Governor's Conference on Environmental Geology in Denver. Jim's talk used data from Los Angeles to prove that property damage and resulting financial loss...
