Abstract

The Bangka Belitung Islands have several points that are important enough to support people's lives, such as the Belo Laut River, the Clay River, the Batu Mentas River, the Tebat Rasau River, Bantan, the Batu Rusa River, under the PDAM, and the Sadai port. The river is one of the water areas that is very commonly affected by waste pollution. Pollution that often occurs around river areas is caused by residual waste from residential activities that are discharged into the waters. This research aims to make the public aware of the types and abundance of microplastics in the Bangka Belitung Islands and to know the impact and ways to deal with the presence of microplastics in the waters. The water sampling method was carried out at 8 different points as much as 100L of water with the MisticScan tool. Then the sample was destroyed and added 30% H2O2 solution and 5 drops of FeSO4. Then the sample was filtered using Wathmann paper and analyzed using a 10×4 stereo microscope. The total average yield of types and abundance of microplastics was 5.06 particles/liter. The way that can be done to minimize the presence of microplastics is by practicing good and correct waste management and utilization.
