Jean Tirole hat allerdings ein sehr breites Forschungsspektrum, das Fragen der Informationstechnik, Patente, Standards, die Finanzintermediation und die Institutionenokonomie einschliest. Sein Einfluss auf die Okonomik zeigt sich unter anderem an der Fulle von Zitationen, die ihn in verschiedenen Rankings auf die vordersten Platze brachte.
