Abstract

The purpose of this article is to probe the philosophical and spiritual value of the metaphor of cosmogonic travel in the works of Jean-Marie Pelt and J.M.G. Le Clézio. The botanist-pharmacist and the Franco-Mauritian author take advantage of the literary device of the cosmogonic journey to create a strikingly similar dystopian representation of the modern world. This metaphor could be best described as an invitation imploring us to reconnect to our cosmic roots before it is too late. During these instants of cosmogonic reverie, the reader rediscovers her/his material essence that binds all sentient and non-sentient beings to the universe.
