Abstract

Dear readers, It is my pleasure to introduce to the international readership the new EADV publication, the JEADV Clinical Practice or JEACP. A companion to our flagship journal JEADV, the JEACP aims to become an exciting new platform of education and exchange in Dermatology and Venereology with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of care of people living with skin and venereal diseases. I wish to congratulate the new Editor-in-Chief Dr Antonio Torrelo, the internationally acclaimed JEACP Editorial Team, the EADV Editorial Office headed by Ms Asao Sarukawa, and JEADV's Editor Prof Johannes Ring for their inspiration, enthusiasm and preparatory groundwork in setting up and moving forward with the new Journal. The arrival of the JEACP comes 30 years after the launch of the JEADV (1991), which has now established its position as one of the leading journals in Dermato-Venereology. As a world-class resource of important articles of the field, the JEADV attracts a large number of scientifically rigorous manuscripts, some of which are not accepted due to priority or capacity reasons. This created the need for a new EADV publication that could serve as the home for transformative research work and clinically oriented papers and as an extension of EADV's publishing activities. The idea of a “sister” Journal also reflected the growing influence of our Academy, increasing the readership of the JEADV and enhancing the interest of clinicians and researchers in publishing their work at our Journal. The JEACP will follow many of the elements that made the JEADV so successful, but it will also carry certain unique and distinguishing features. The first one is its primary focus on clinical care. Covering all aspects of Dermatology–Venereology, the JEACP will provide cutting edge educational and clinically focused content that aims to increase the knowledge and the practising skills of dermatologists-venereologists and bring them up to date with the staggering flow of advances and new developments in our speciality. By establishing a new publication path, the JEACP will become a welcome point for innovative clinical research and at the same time enhance the incorporation of new modalities, new concepts and breakthrough medicines in clinical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology. Accessibility is the second feature of the new Journal: as an open access publication, the JEACP will be freely available to all readers at any time. This means that its high-quality content will be accessible to anyone, from the medical student to the seasoned practitioner and from the avid researcher to the dermatology caregiver, nurse, or patient. In this way, it will foster the sense of a global community and serve as a forum of continuous exchange and dialogue on submitted research work from around the world. The third feature of the new Journal is innovation. The JEACP will showcase a wide variety of flexible formats and state-of-the-art publication methods including research articles, commentaries, imaging modalities, quizzes and videos, ensuring the innovative delivery of its rich scientific subject. In this way, JEACP is abreast of the times “tool” of communication and at the same time ensures that it encompasses all present needs of our readership, including those of our younger colleagues and of the next generation of dermatologists and venereologists. Every new initiative needs our support to grow and flourish. I invite you to support the new Journal and to contribute to its growth by participating in any possible way: as an author, a researcher, a reviewer or a reader. I am confident that, following the successful tradition of the JEADV, the new Journal will soon become a respected stand of the very best research and a wonderful lifelong companion in our everyday clinical practice. None. The author declares that there is no conflict of interest.
