Abstract

Welcome to the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology for March 2022. JCD has had an amazing “ride” over the past several years as the number of submitted articles has reached record highs and for this, we are truly grateful to all of you. The quality of the articles that we are seeing every day has also increased, and we have become one of the go-to journals for everything that is aesthetic and cosmetic in our space. We have an amazing team of Reviewers and Associate Editors and, along with our incredible support from Wiley, we are well-positioned to become a more prominent resource journal for our fields as we move forward in 2022. Where are we in Cosmetic Dermatology at this time? The world continues to be gripped by a global pandemic that we all hope and pray will end at some point soon, or at least allow us to get back to a more “normal” state of living. We hope that day comes sooner than later but how has that affected what we all do on a daily basis? When the pandemic first began, now over two years ago, we all thought that it would be short-lived, that things would be okay for all of us, and that we would not have a great deal of disruptions in our everyday practices. We soon realize the pandemic would be with us for a long time, that our practices would be disrupted, and that our everyday lives would be changed for a long time—which has turned out to be the case. How many of us thought that we would be doing Zoom, Teams, or Google meetings each day? How many thought we would be doing our CME meetings virtually and that even today, many of our meetings are either still virtual or now a hybrid of live and virtual? Everything about this pandemic seems to have brought more challenges to what we once took for granted—yet, where are we today? It is amazing to see that despite all of these “setbacks” or disruptions to what we have done “normally” forever, the cosmetic dermatology and plastic surgery space that we live in is thriving. To the credits of the companies in our space, and to all of you who do clinical research, these activities seemed to have continued at a pace that seems to have gone beyond what we saw before the pandemic began. You all have been diligent in working with your patients and sponsors and investigators to make great strides and progress in every aspect of the cosmetic and aesthetic space. The cosmetic space in all aspects—skin care, injectables, energy-based devices, dermatologic surgery, and basic science research, is at record highs. And so this is an exciting time for all of us and for all of our patients all over the globe. We need to continue to make even more strides to bring new products and technologies to everyone and to assure that the research associated with these strides is published in peer-reviewed medical journals, such as JCD. We are excited to bring you this issue of JCD and continue to wish everyone good health and to stay safe as we hopefully see an end to this pandemic in the not too distant future.
