Abstract
The effect of rotating-wave and counter-rotating terms in the energy spectrum of a single two-level atom interacting with a quantized field is investigated within a fermionic linearization scheme involving Clifford variables. After reproducing the Jaynes-Cummings results in the rotating-wave approximation, the counter-rotating terms are shown to determine an energy spectrum sensitive to low photon-number conditions.
