Abstract

Mammals are classified into the three types by chewing manner:predatory mammals, herbivorous mammals, and omnivorous mammals. The mechanism of mastication was correlate with the development and topography of muscles and depending on the arrangement of the teeth and mandibular joint. The predatory animals are characterised by the fact that the muscles which open and close the mouth are particularly powerful while those muscles responsible for grinding action are relatively poorly developed. And the shape of mandibular joint is restricted to the movement of mandible.
