Abstract

The article analyses Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s short story Zarudzie as an expression of his unconsciousreaction to the journalism and other writings that came from Jerzy Giedroyc’s circleand concerned the issue of the Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation. Given his personal connection toUkraine, Iwaszkiewicz may have felt compelled to respond, but the direct reason was most likelythe involvement of his grandson, Maciej Włodek, in smuggling the publications of the Literary Instituteto Poland, i.e. the case of the so-called mountaineers.
