Abstract
This chapter discusses the current state of new immigration policies in Japan and analyzes society's responses to those policies. The number of foreign residents in Japan has been increasing. However, Japanese government has publicly proclaimed that “it will not take a so-called immigration policy,” creating a gap between the actual policy and the public statement. In addition, the following factors were found in society's responses: (1) responsibility of the foreigners employing corporate, (2) prioritize “Japanese People”, and (3) lack of understanding of the Japanese language use and learning by foreigners. In order to increase the number of foreigners in Japan in the future, in addition to designing the system for the social integration of foreigners, advocacy activities for the consciousness change of people are important.
