Japan’s National Soil Quality Standards as Expanded in 1994

Abstract

Under the Basic Environment Law, environmental quality standards(EQSs) for soil pollution are set as the desirable levels of soil quality for the protection of human health and living environment. On February 21, 1994 Environment Agency added fifteen substances to the EQSs and strengthened some of the existing sandard values. As a results, the EQSs are stipulated for twenty five substances.
