Abstract

This paper is based on the operations management practices followed at Shriram Fuel Injection Industries (SFII) with particular reference to the implementation of select Japanese concepts namely: 5-S, kaizen, poka-yoke, quality circles, SMED, Jidoka (autonomation). The conditions before and after the implementation of these concepts and thebenefits accrued from these techniques are highlighted. The data was collected through personal interview and observation methods. This paper explains how SFII has been surging ahead in enhancing quality orientation among its employees and providing an enablingand conducive work environment for quality operations with total employee involvement.
