Abstract

This chapter examines Japan’s overall Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bangladesh and describes the trajectory of Japanese investment in Bangladesh over the years. It examines Japanese investment patterns in Bangladesh, which are classified by major sectors, in order to examine the nature of Japanese investments in Bangladesh’s various industries. It also discusses the opportunities and obstacles related to the Japanese Economic Zone, which is being built by Bangladesh as a means of attracting more Japanese investors to the country. Finally, the chapter concludes with a detailed description of the impediments around starting a business in both Dhaka and Chittagong.
