Abstract

Color traps for Popillia japonica Newman baited with phenethyl propionate + eugenol + geraniol (PEG), 3:7:3, and Japonilure, the synthetic female sex pheromone, or baited with Japonilure alone, were exposed in infested turf-covered areas at Wooster, Ohio from 1979 to 1984. Traps baited with PEG + Japonilure and painted white, yellow, blue, green, are yellow, saturn yellow. or signal green all showed high degrees of attractancy to the pest. Traps painted white, however, were the most attractive; they captured about one-third more beetles than standard yellow traps. The difference was significant in two of four tests. Color did not significantly affect captures of male beetles in traps baited only with Japonilure.
