Abstract

AbstractThis paper is an overview of the institutional positioning and history of implementation of disaster countermeasures for cultural properties in Japan, in order to provide basic information to understand the essays in this book. In reality, the system has undergone various changes, such as the expansion of its scope and changes in the way of thinking about the utilization of cultural properties, until now. However, disaster prevention has consistently been one of the major issues in the protection of cultural properties in Japan.
