Abstract

Reared within the fold of Ulster's Protestant fundamentalism, James Mc Whirter (1900-1990) became a member of the Elim Revival Party under George Jeffreys from 1920 to 1936. Yet, in his own words he ‘had yet a long way to go.’ The journey that ensued saw him move up the social scale, travel to many lands and meet leading statesmen and religious leaders. His involvement in the ecumenical movement preceded that of David Du Plessis with whom he is here compared.
